Structuring Chromosomes for Context-Free Grammar Evolution

چکیده

This paper investigates the use of genetic algorithms for inferring small regular and context-free grammars. Applied simply, a genetic algorithm is not very effective at this. To overcome this problem we investigate two methods of structuring the chromosomes. The rst is to bias the distribution of`1's in the population of chromosomes according to an algebraic expansion technique previously developed by the author. This`design' of the chromosome distribution , shows no bias to any particular type of language (i.e. full generality is retained) yet improves convergence. The second method involves performing the evolution (i.e. making the mutations) in a diierent space, where the grammars are represented inèm-bedded normal form'. The latter approach structures the chromosome to represent context-free rather than regular grammars, for example. It is shown that biasing the chromosome in this fashion produces extremely fast convergence, and 3-symbol palindromes grammars are learned in typically less than 10 generations .

Sequential Structuring Element for CFG Induction Using Genetic Algorithm

This paper investigates the induction of Context free Grammar with genetic algorithm. The genetic algorithm is not very effective at this [1]. To overcome this problem we investigate combined effect of two methods for structuring the chromosomes. The first is to bias the distribution of Non-terminals in the chromosome at the time of chromosome generation as well as updating. The latter approach...

Studying impressive parameters on the performance of Persian probabilistic context free grammar parser

In linguistics, a tree bank is a parsed text corpus that annotates syntactic or semantic sentence structure. The exploitation of tree bank data has been important ever since the first large-scale tree bank, The Penn Treebank, was published. However, although originating in computational linguistics, the value of tree bank is becoming more widely appreciated in linguistics research as a whole. F...

Solving Knapsack Problems with Attribute Grammars

We present a work in progress describing attribute grammar approaches to Grammatical Evolution, which allow us to encode context-sensitive and semantic information. Performance of the different grammars adopted are directly compared with a more traditional GA representation on five instances of an NP-hard knapsack problem. The results presented are encouraging, demonstrating that Grammatical Ev...

Formalized analysis of structural characteristics of large complex systems

Macrostructural modelization is paramount to the development of large complex systems (LCS). However, effective methodology has not been well established for macrostructural modelization of LCS. This paper explores the macrostructural modelization of LCS in terms of block diagram based model and grammar based model. Firstly, the macrostructural modelization problem of LCS is formulated. Secondl...

In this work we propose an approach for incorporating learning probabilistic context-sensitive grammar (LPCSG) in genetic programming (GP), employed for evolution and adaptation of locomotion gaits of a simulated snake-like robot (Snakebot). Our approach is derived from the original context-free grammar which usually expresses the syntax of genetic programs in canonical GP. Empirically obtained...
